Build and Optimize Routes
Build a day's routes, reorder stops, and see which changes still work after dispatch.
Build each crew's route for a day from the Routes page, even out the day's jobs across crews, and reorder stops on each route's page. Planning changes stop once a route is dispatched, but customer alerts, breakdown reports, and emergency jobs still work.
Build the day's routes
Build routes plans a route for every assigned crew on the chosen day. Only people who can edit routes see the toolbar.
- Pick the day with the date controls.
- Choose a Goal.
- Click Build routes.
Note
Build routes is disabled for past days.
Goal sets what the planner favors. Fastest favors drive time, Least driving favors distance, and Revenue first also makes a higher-value job costlier to leave off a route. Balanced, the default, weighs both.
When you build, a route is left alone if it is not Draft or Optimized, or if its plan is still current. Crews on time off, on a holiday, or marked not routable get no route. Replanned routes lose their pinned stops.
Even out workload across crews
Even out workload spreads the day's jobs across crews, then rebuilds each route with the chosen Goal. Pick the day, then click Even out workload.
Note
Even out workload does nothing while any route for the day is dispatched or in progress.
Optimize a route's stop order
Optimize reorders one route's stops to cut drive time, and pinned stops stay put. It appears on Draft and Optimized routes for people who can edit routes.
- Open the route from the Routes page.
- Click Optimize.
Optimize uses the Goal the route was last planned with. When that plan is still current, the route stays as it is.
Reorder and pin stops by hand
Each stop has up and down chevrons, labeled Move earlier and Move later, on Draft and Optimized routes. Click them until the order is right. The new order is saved to the route.
Note
The next Optimize re-solves the route after a manual reorder.
To pin a stop, open More stop options on it and choose Pin stop in place. The stop then shows a Pinned badge, and the menu offers Unpin stop instead. Pinned stops can still be moved by hand, and the pin stays with the stop.
Undispatch a route to replan it
Undispatch route returns a dispatched route with no stops started to Optimized, so its stops can change.
- Open More route actions on the route page.
- Choose Undispatch route, then confirm with Undispatch route.
Note
Undispatch route appears only when every stop is still pending. The server also refuses the change once any stop has moved past pending.
Add an emergency job to a route
Add emergency job adds a job from the day's schedule that is not on a route yet to a crew's route.
- Click Add emergency job on the Routes page.
- Pick the job.
- Click Add on the crew you want. Crews appear with the least added time first.
Crews that cannot take the job, such as those without a required skill or piece of equipment, cannot be added. Completed, arrived, and en route stops keep their place, and only the pending stops are re-sequenced with fresh arrival estimates.
Note
Only Optimized, Dispatched, and In progress routes are considered, so Draft routes are not.
A job without a verified address cannot be added. See fixing addresses.
Replanning limits by route status
The Routes page and the route page name statuses differently. The Routes page shows Planned, Sent, Working, and Done for Optimized, Dispatched, In progress, and Completed. The route page uses Draft, Optimized, Dispatched, In progress, Completed, and Canceled.
- Draft and Optimized: planning actions work, including Optimize, reordering, and pinning.
- Dispatched and In progress: planning actions stop. Notify customers and Override quiet hours appear for editors, and Report breakdown appears under More route actions. Share my location appears on your own route when GPS consent is on.
- Completed: the route shows no route actions.
Day-of tracking is covered in running the day from operations.
Build routes, Even out workload, Add emergency job, Optimize, reordering, pinning, and Notify customers need permission to edit routes. See roles and permissions.
Build routes, Optimize, and Even out workload share a limit of 10 planning requests per minute for each account. A request counts even when the order does not change, and requests past the limit are refused.
