Use Extra Usage for Texting and Calling
See what extra usage has cost you this month, and turn it on to keep texting and calling past your allowance.
The Growth plan includes 2,000 credits of texting and calling each month. Extra usage keeps texts and calls going past that allowance, and you pay only for what you use. Turn it on or off in Billing or in Phone & Texting.
Check your usage
The Calling and texting section in Billing shows your allowance and what extra usage has cost you this month. Phone & Texting shows the same card when your plan includes texting and calling.
- Open Billing.
- Find the Usage This Month card in the Calling and texting section.
- Read the allowance line, then the Billed this month line under the meter.
The Billed this month line shows the dollar amount billed past the allowance, with the number of texts and call minutes it covers. The allowance line shows the credits used this month and the date the allowance resets.
Turn on extra usage
Extra usage is off until you turn it on. Usage past the allowance is added to your monthly invoice.
- Open Billing or Phone & Texting.
- In Extra usage, turn on the switch.
- Without a card on file, Stripe Checkout opens first. Enter a card there to finish.
The switch stays on, and the rate for each text and call minute appears under it.
Note
Only members with full access to Settings can turn extra usage on or off. Other members see the switch disabled.
Turn off extra usage
Turning extra usage off takes effect at once. Usage you have already made is billed.
- Open Billing or Phone & Texting.
- In Extra usage, turn off the switch.
Texts and calls past the allowance are refused from that moment, until the allowance resets.
Note
A call that started before you turned extra usage off continues until it ends. Its minutes are billed.
What the allowance covers
- Allowance: 2,000 credits each month, shared by texts and call minutes. These credits are your texting and calling allowance only. They are separate from AI assistant credits.
- Text past the allowance: $0.02 each.
- Call minute past the allowance: $0.05 each. Each call is rounded up to whole minutes.
- Crossing the allowance: a text or call minute that starts inside the allowance and ends past it is billed in full.
- Reset: the first day of each month, Central time.
- Text length: a text longer than 160 characters counts as more than one message. A text with a character outside the standard alphabet, such as a checkmark, counts as more than one message after 70 characters.
When you reach the allowance
With extra usage off, the communications screens show a warning once you have used 80% of the allowance.
When the allowance is used up:
- Texts you send from your business number are refused. Automatic texts are skipped too.
- Calls you place are refused.
- Texts and calls you receive still arrive and are logged.
The allowance resets on the first day of the next month. To keep sending before then, turn on extra usage. The warning has a Turn on extra usage button for members with full access to Settings.
