View Your Revenue

Check collected income, tax, and refunds, then see the trend, the lead sources and ad campaigns that brought the money in, and the items that earned the most.

The Revenue page shows the amount collected on invoices with a payment: four totals, a chart over time, breakdowns by lead source and by marketing, and a breakdown by item. Use it to check the amount collected on invoices issued in the last 30 days, the last 365 days, or all time.

Open the Revenue page

The sidebar lists Revenue only to roles that can see it. The page itself requires view access to revenue. For role permissions, see Roles and permissions.

  1. In the sidebar, click Revenue.

The page shows the four totals, the Revenue Over Time chart, the Revenue by Lead Source and Revenue by Marketing sections, and the Revenue by Item section. On a wide screen the lead source and marketing sections sit side by side.

The sidebar also lists Expenses after Revenue when your role can see expenses, and either expense tracking is enabled or QuickBooks is enabled and your role can view expenses. For expenses, see Track expenses.

Change the time range

The time range sets how far back the page counts invoices and how the chart groups them. The page opens on Last 12 months.

  1. Next to the page title, click Last 30 days, Last 12 months, or All time.

The totals, the chart, and every breakdown update to the new range.

Read the revenue chart

The chart plots the net collected on invoices issued in each period. A period with no collected revenue has no point. The points are spaced evenly, so an empty period leaves no gap on the axis.

  1. Move the pointer across the chart.

A tooltip shows the period and the amount for the hovered point.

Review revenue by lead source

The Revenue by Lead Source section groups invoices by how the customer reached you. Its Collected column adds up to Net collected.

  1. Scroll to Revenue by Lead Source below the chart.
  2. Read the Collected and Share columns for each source.

Rows sort from the highest Collected to the lowest, with No source always last. Each row shows the source name under Source, its Invoices count, the amount under Collected, and its Share of the total.

How an invoice gets its source

  • An invoice takes the source of the lead behind its job, including an invoice converted from a quote on that job.
  • A lead from the instant quote tool counts as Instant quote, and a lead from an online booking counts as Online booking.
  • A lead from a contact form counts under the form's name, so each form gets its own row. Any other website lead counts as Website (other).
  • Leads from Angi count as Angi, separate from other referrals.
  • A lead with the source Other and a source name, such as one from an import, counts under that name.
  • An invoice with no lead takes its contact's source.
  • An invoice whose lead and contact both have no source counts as No source.

Review revenue by marketing

The Revenue by Marketing section groups invoices by the ad or tagged link that brought the customer, and splits each platform into its campaigns. Its Collected column adds up to Net collected.

  1. Scroll to Revenue by Marketing, beside or below Revenue by Lead Source.
  2. Read the Collected and Share columns for each platform, and for the campaigns listed under it.

Platforms sort from the highest Collected to the lowest, with Not tracked always last. Campaigns sort the same way, with No campaign name last, and each Share is a share of the whole range.

How an invoice gets its platform and campaign

Your contact forms, instant quote tool and online booking record the visit's UTM tags (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content, utm_term) and ad click ids on the contact and the lead they create. On your own website this works through the JobWise embed code. A visitor who lands on one page with the tags and fills in a form on another page within 90 days keeps them, as long as the page they landed on also loads the embed script.

  • A Google Ads click id (gclid, gbraid or wbraid) counts as Google Ads, and a Meta click id (fbclid) counts as Meta Ads, whatever the UTM tags say.
  • Without a click id, a utm_source of Google or Meta with a paid utm_medium (such as cpc, ppc, paid or paid_social) counts as that ad platform. Any other utm_source counts under its own name, such as newsletter.
  • A lead with the source Google Ads and no tags counts as Google Ads.
  • The campaign is the visit's utm_campaign. A Google Ads click with auto-tagging and no utm_campaign counts as No campaign name.
  • An invoice whose lead and contact carry no tags and no click id counts as Not tracked. Phone calls, referrals and leads added by hand usually land here.
  • The embed also picks up the click ids your own Google and Meta tags already save on your website, when the visit itself carried none.

Review revenue by item

The Revenue by Item section groups invoice lines by catalog item.

  1. Scroll to Revenue by Item at the bottom of the page.
  2. Read the Revenue column for each row.

Rows sort from the highest Revenue to the lowest. Each row shows the item name under Item / Service, its Lines count, and its Revenue.

What each time range covers

  • Last 30 days: invoices issued in the last 30 days, with one point for each day that has revenue.
  • Last 12 months: invoices issued in the last 365 days, with one point for each month that has revenue.
  • All time: all invoices with a payment, with one point for each year that has revenue.

What the totals mean

  • Net collected: amount paid minus refunds on each invoice.
  • Gross (pre-tax): the invoice subtotal before tax, for the collected share of each invoice.
  • Tax collected: the tax on the collected share of each invoice.
  • Refunded: the full refund amount on each invoice in the range, not only the collected share.

The collected share of an invoice is its paid amount minus refunds, divided by its total. Gross and tax collected are multiplied by that share. For example, an invoice with a $400.00 subtotal, $50.00 tax, and $450.00 total, with $225.00 paid, adds $225.00 to net collected, $200.00 to gross, and $25.00 to tax collected.

Which invoices count

  • Only invoices with a payment count.
  • The time range uses each invoice's issue date.
  • Deleted invoice lines are left out of Revenue by Item.
  • Lines with no catalog item appear in a row named Uncategorized, marked "(no catalog item)".
  • Totals are formatted in the currency of one invoice in the range.

Note

An invoice issued in one month and paid in the next counts in the month it was issued.
