Use the [**Team**](/go/settings/team) page in the sidebar to change a member's role, remove a member, or leave the organization yourself. Owners and admins manage other members. To add people, see [Invite team members](/help/team/invite-team-members).

## Change a member's role

Use this when a member's job changes and their current role no longer fits. For what each role allows, see [Roles and permissions](/help/team/roles-and-permissions).

1. Click **Team** in the sidebar.
2. Find the member's row.
3. Open the role dropdown on the member's row.
   - Only the owner can change an admin's role or make someone an admin.
   - The owner's role can't be changed.
4. Select the new role.

Selecting a role saves it straight away, with no separate save step. The dropdown then shows the new role, and the member's permissions match it.

> **Note:** You can't change your own role. You also can't give a role that grants more access than you have.

## Remove a member

Use this when someone no longer belongs in the organization.

1. Click **Team** in the sidebar.
2. Click the **trash icon** on the member's row.
   - Owners and admins see the **trash icon**. Admins don't see it on another admin's row.
   - The owner's row has no **trash icon**. Transfer ownership to another member first.
3. In the **Remove Team Member** dialog, click **Remove member**.

The member's row leaves the Team list.

> **Note:** Removing a member ends their access to the organization.

## Transfer ownership before leaving

Owners hand ownership to another member before they can leave.

1. Click **Team** in the sidebar.
2. Click the **crown icon** on the new owner's row.
3. In the **Transfer Ownership** dialog, click **Transfer ownership**.

The new owner's row shows the **Owner** badge. The new owner also gets the admin role, and you stay a member with the role you already had.

> **Warning:** After the transfer, you can't transfer ownership back yourself.

## Leave an organization

Use this when you no longer work with an organization. Every member except the owner can leave from their own row.

1. Click **Team** in the sidebar.
2. Click the **logout icon** on your own row.
   - If you are the owner, the dialog doesn't open, so transfer ownership first.
3. In the **Leave Organization** dialog, click **Leave organization**.

The app opens the dashboard home page.

> **Warning:** Leaving ends your access to all resources in the organization.

## Who can change or remove members

- The owner changes any other member's role, including making someone an admin, and removes any other member.
- Admins change and remove members who don't hold the admin role, but can't assign the admin role.
- Members who are neither the owner nor an admin see no role dropdown, crown or trash icon. They see each member's role as plain text.
