Each form keeps the responses visitors sent it, newest first. A lead is an
open sales opportunity, and a response can become one. For the
basics, see [Introduction to Leads](/help/leads/introduction-to-leads).

## Read a form's responses

Use this to read the answers a visitor sent through one form.

1. Open the [**Contact Forms**](/go/contact-form) list.
2. Click **Responses** on the form you want.
3. Click a response in the list.

The **Response** panel opens with each answer the visitor sent.

## Add one response to the lead flow

Use this to add one response, including one whose lead was deleted.

1. Click a response that does not have the **In lead flow** badge.
2. Click **Add to lead flow** in the **Response** panel.

The response stays open, and its panel shows **View lead** in place of the button.

> **Note:** A response with a blank first name, last name, or email cannot be added.

## Add all responses with no lead at once

Use this to add every response that has no lead, in one run.

1. Click **Add to lead flow** above the list.
   - If the banner shows **Map fields** instead, map a form field to first name, last name,
     and email.
2. In the dialog, click **Add to lead flow**.

When the run ends, the **Lead flow import** summary above the list counts new leads, linked
responses, responses missing a name or email, and failures with their reasons.

> **Note:** A response whose lead was deleted is not included in a run.
> Add it from its own panel instead.

## Open a file a visitor attached

Use this to open a file a visitor sent with a response.

1. Click a response that includes a file.
2. Click the file name to open it in a new tab.
3. Click the download button beside the file name to save it.

The file name opens files the browser can show, and other file types download.

## What the response panel shows

Each answer appears under its field label, and the **Submitted** time comes last. A form's
fields set what visitors answer. To add or reorder fields, see
[Create a Contact Form](/help/contact-forms/create-a-contact-form).

- Email addresses and phone numbers are links that start an email or a call.
- Addresses open a Google Maps search.

## Lead status on each response

Each response shows one of these states in the list and in its panel.

- **In lead flow**: the response's lead has not been deleted. Its panel shows **View lead**,
which opens that lead. Bulk runs skip the response.
- **Lead deleted**: the response's lead was deleted, but the response keeps its link to that
lead. Its panel shows **Add to lead flow**. Adding it
creates a lead, or links to a lead the same person already has if that lead was created on
or after the response was sent.
- Without a badge: the response has no lead. Its panel shows **Add to lead flow**.

Contacts hold the people and companies you work with. For the basics, see
[Introduction to Contacts](/help/contacts/introduction-to-contacts). Adding a response matches
its sender to an existing contact by email, then phone, so one person is not added twice.

A form with **Create a contact and lead from each submission** turned on adds a lead when a
visitor submits, if the response has a first name, last name, and email.

## Who can do what

- Viewing responses and opening their files needs view access to **Lead Pipeline**.
- Adding responses needs edit access to **Lead Pipeline** and **Contacts**.
- Without edit access, the **Add to lead flow** button and the banner do not appear.

Roles decide what each team member can see and change. For the basics, see
[Create and Edit Roles and Permissions](/help/team/roles-and-permissions).
